Tirupati Venkateswara Temple is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site located in Tirupati. Tirupati is one of the most famous pilgrimage centers in India . One of the earliest Tamil literature, the Sangam literature, refers to Tirupati as Trivengadam. There are differences of opinion among historians regarding the history of Tirupati. But it is clear that by the 5th century it had established itself as a major religious center. It is said that the kings of Chola, Hoysala and Vijayanagara were financially instrumental in the construction of this temple.
Recitations
There is a legend about this temple as follows. Lord Venkateswara or Balaji is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resided for some time on the banks of the lake named Swami Pushkarni. This lake is located near Tirumala. Tirumala- The hills around Tirupati are built on the base of seven hoods of Sheshnag called 'Saptagiri'. This temple of Sri Venkateswaraiah is situated on the seventh hill of Saptagiri, which is famous by the name Venkatadri.
At the same time, according to another legend, in the 11th century, Saint Ramanuja climbed this seventh hill of Tirupati. Lord Srinivasa (another name for Venkateswara) appeared before him and blessed him. It is believed that after receiving the blessings of the Lord, he lived till the age of 120 years and spread the fame of Lord Venkateswara by roaming from place to place.

History
The history of this temple is believed to start from the 9th century, when the Pallavas, the ruling dynasty of Kanchipuram, established their suzerainty at this place, but even after the 15 century rule of the Vijayanagara dynasty, the fame of this temple remained limited. After the 15th century, the fame of this temple started spreading far and wide. Under the rule of the British from 1843 to 1933, the management of this temple was handled by the Mahant of Hatiramji Math. There has also been a donation to the monastery of Hyderabad.
In 1933 the management of this temple was taken over by the Government of Madras and handed over the management of this temple to an independent management committee 'Tirumala-Tirupati'. After the formation of the state of Andhra Pradesh, this committee was reconstituted and an administrative officer was appointed as the representative of the Andhra Pradesh government.

Seeing the long queues of devotees, the fame of this temple of Sahaj is estimated. Apart from the main temple, there are other temples too. Main temple
This holy and ancient temple of Sri Venkateswara is situated on the seventh peak of the mountain called Venkatadri, which is situated on the bank of a pond named Sri Swami Pushkarni. That is why here Balaji is known as Lord Venkateswara.
This is one of the few temples in India, whose doors are open to all the devotees. According to ancient literary sources like Puranas and Alvar articles, salvation is possible only after receiving the blessings of Lord Venkateswara in Kali Yuga. More than fifty thousand devotees visit this temple daily for darshan. The care of these pilgrims is completely under the protection of TTD.
This ancient temple of Sri Venkateswara is situated on the seventh peak (Venkatachala) of Tirupati mountain. It is situated on the southern bank of Sri Swami Pushkarini. It is believed that due to being the lord of Venkata hill, he came to be called Venkateshwara. He is also called the Lord of the Seven Mountains. Lord Venkateshwara Sakshat is seated in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
It is in the courtyard of the main temple. The temple complex has many exquisitely designed gates, mandapams and small temples. The main places of interest in the temple complex are: Padi Kavali Mahadwara Sampanga Pradakshinam, Krishna Devarya Mandapam, Rang Mandapam Tirumala Raya Mandapam, Aina Mahal, Dhwajastambh Mandapam, Nadimi Padi Kavali, Vimana Pradakshinam, Sri Varadarajaswamy Shrine Potu etc.

Sri Padmavati Samovar Temple Tiruchanur (alsoknown as Alamelumangapuram ) is 5 km from Tirupati. is far.This temple is dedicated to Sri Padmavati Lakshmi, the consort of Lord Sri Venkateswara Vishnu. It is said that the journey to Tirumala cannot be completed unless this temple is visited.
Kalyanotsav is celebrated in Tirumala from 10.30 am to 12 noon. Darshan here starts from 6.30 am. Darshan on Fridays starts after 8 in the morning. There are daily buses from Tirupati to Tiruchanur.
Sri Govindarajaswamy Temple.
Sri Govindarajaswamy is the elder brother of Lord Balaji. This temple is the main attraction of Tirupati. Its gopuram is very grand which is visible from a distance. This temple was built by Saint Ramanujacharya in 1130 AD. The celebrations and events at the Govindarajaswamy temple are similar to those of the Venkateswara temple. The annual Brahmotsava is celebrated in the month of Vaisakh. The courtyard of this temple houses a museum and small temples, including the temple of Parthasarathy, Godadevi Andal and Pundarikavalli. The main idol of the temple is Shayanmurti (Lord's sleep state). Darshan timings are- 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, 1.00 pm to 6 pm and 7.00 pm to 8.45 pm
Sri Kodandaramaswamy Temple
This temple is situated in the center of Tirupati. Sita, Rama and Lakshmana are worshiped here. This temple was built by the Chola king in the tenth century. Right in front of this temple is the temple of Anjaneyaswami, which is a sub-temple of the Sri Kodadaramaswamy temple. The festival of Ugadi and Shri Ram Navami is celebrated with great pomp here.
Sri Kapileshwaraswamy Temple
Kapila Theertham is a famous Shiva temple and theertham located at Tirupati in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. Ma this idol was installed by Kapila Muni and hence Lord Shiva here is known as Kapileshwar. This is the only Shiva temple in Tirupati. It is located three km north of Tirupati city, under the hills of Tirumala and midway on the way to Tirumala. Buses, auto rickshaws are the main means of transport to Kapil Teertham and are easily available.
There is also a holy river called Kapila Theertham here. Which comes down from the hills flowing through the Saptagiri hills to Kapil Tirtham, which looks very picturesque. This temple is located at Srinivasa Mangapuram, 12 km west of Tirupati. According to mythology, Lord Venkateswara stayed here before going to Tirumala after marrying Sri Padmavati. This temple is located at Narayanavanam, 40 km from Tirupati. Lord Sri Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavati, the daughter of King Akash, were tied in this knot. Sri Kalyana Venkateswaraswamy is mainly worshiped here. There are also five sub-temples here. Sri Devi Padmavati Temple, Sri Andal Temple, Lord Ramachandra's Temple, Sri Ranganayakul Temple and Sri Sita Lakshmana Temple. Sri Veda Narayanaswamy Temple.
This temple of Nagalapuram is 70 km from Tirupati. It is believed that Lord Vishnu took the Matsya avatar and killed the demon Somakudu here. In the main sanctum there is an idol of Vishnu in the Matsya form with Sridevi and Bhudevi sitting on either side. The Sudarshan Chakra worn by the Lord looks most attractive. This temple was built by the Vijayanagara king Sri Krishna Deva Raya. This temple reflects the architecture of Vijayanagara. The main festivals celebrated in the temple are Brahmotsavam and Surya Puja. This puja is done on 12th, 13th and 14th Tithi of Falgun month. During this, the sun's rays fall on the main statue from 6 am to 6.15 minutes. It is as if the Sun God himself is worshiping the Lord.
Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple
This temple is 58 km from Tirupati. It is located at Karvetinagaram. The idol of Lord Venugopal is mainly installed here. Along with him are statues of his wives Sri Rukmani Ammavaru and Sri Satsabhama Ammavaru. There is also a sub-temple here.
Sri Prasanna Venkateswaraswamy Temple
Sri Venkateswaraswamy Ammavaru is believed to have blessed Sri Siddeshwara and other disciples here, at Appalayagunta, after his marriage to Sri Padmavathi Ammavaru. Dedicated to Anjaneyaswami, this temple was built by the kings of Karvetinagar. It is said that if patients suffering from genetic diseases come here and pray in front of the statue of Vayudev, then God definitely listens. There are also idols of Goddess Padmavati and Sri Andal. Sri Chennakeshavaswamy Temple
Tallapaka is 100 kms from Tirupati. is far. It is the birthplace of Shri Annamacharya (Sankirtana Acharya). Annamacharya was the son of Sri Narayanasuri and Lakkamamba. According to legend, this temple, about 1000 years old, was built and managed by the Matthew kings.
Sri Kariya Manikyaswamy Temple.
Sri Kariya Manikyaswamy Temple (also known as Sri Perumala Swamy Temple) 51 km from Tirupati. It is located in the distant Nilgiris. It is believed that it was here that Lord Mahavishnu saved the elephant named Gajendra after killing Makara. This incident is called as Gajendramoksham in the Mahabhagavatam.
Sri Annapurna-Kashi Vishweshwaraswamy
This temple built on the banks of river Kusasthali is 56 km from Tirupati. It is located in Bagga Agraharam. Shri Prayag Madhava Swamy including Sri Kashi Vishweshwar, Sri Annapurna Ammavaru, Sri Kamakshi Ammavaru and Sri Devi Bhudevi is mainly worshiped here. It is believed that Vishnu bathes in Pushkarini Kund in Vaikunth, hence Shri Garuda brought it to earth for Shri Venkateswara. It is adjacent to Jalakund temple. It is also said that by seeing Pushkarini, all the sins of a person are washed away and the devotee gets all the happiness. Devotees visit here before entering the temple. By doing this both the body and the soul become pure.

Galaxy Falls 3 km from Tirumala Temple. Located in the north. The main reason for its fame is that the Lord is bathed in this water. The water coming out of the hill falls rapidly into the valley below. The view here is very beautiful during the rainy season.
Sri Varahaswamy Temple.
The famous temple of Sri Varahaswami, situated north of Tirumala, is situated on the banks of Pushkarini. This temple is dedicated to Varaha Swami, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Tirumala was originally Adi Varaha Kshetra and it was only after the permission of Varaha Swami that Lord Venkateswara made his abode here. According to Brahma Purana, Naivedyam should first be offered to Sri Varahaswami and should be visited here before going to Sri Venkateswara temple. According to the Atri Samhita, the Varaha avatar is worshiped in three forms: Adi Varaha, Pralay Varaha and Yajna Varaha. He is seen in the form of Aadi Varaha in the Sri Varahaswami temple of Tirumala.
Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswamy Temple.
Situated in the north-east of Swami Pushkarini, this temple is right in front of Sri Varahaswamy temple. This temple is dedicated to Hanuman ji. The hands of the idol of the Lord installed here are in prayer positions. Abhishek takes place on a Sunday and Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated with great pomp here.

The total area of this garden is 460 acres. All the needs of the temples of Tirumala are fulfilled by these beautiful gardens built around Tirumala and Tirupati. These flowers are used to decorate the Lord and the mandap, in the construction of the pandal.

The most important festival of Tirupati is 'Brahmotsavam' which is basically considered a festival of happiness. This nine-day long festival is celebrated once a year when the Sun enters Virgo (September, October). Along with this there are other festivals celebrated here - Vasantotsav, Tapotsav, Paviotsav, Adhikamasam etc.

Normally for pre-booking, a letter and a draft of hundred rupees have to be sent here along with the advance amount. In buildings owned by TTD, accommodation is provided for 24 hours only.

Tirupati is the nearest railway station from here. From here trains are available for Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad all the time. Trains run from Tirupati to Tirupati Junction which is only 10 kms from Tirupati and also till Gutur. There are many more train connections from Renigunta Junction.

APSRTC buses ply regularly from different parts of the state to Tirupati and Tirumala. TTD also offers a handful of free bus services between Tirupati and Tirumala. Taxis are also available here.
